Have you ever stopped to help someone and suddenly found yourself in the middle of their life story? And you wonder, whoa...what did I get myself into?
It seems that there are people everywhere who are in desperate need to have someone listen and to be treated with respect.
For some people, it is easier to tell a stranger about the personal pain that is festering inside.
For others, it is a chance to perform or to temporarily have center stage.
And for some it can be the only chance to be heard at all.
People have accused me of having a sign on my forhead that says, "I'm Listening" and I ask myself whose needs are being fulfilled.... But maybe that doesn't matter.
A wise person I know has said that God calls us in the busyness of our day; we answer Yes, and that is prayer. It seems to me that being open to all those we meet is part of the important work in life. It is certainly part of what makes our lives worthwhile.
Is anybody listening? (someone needs your prayer)
